Tony Munton
Managing Director
Dr Tony Munton is an experienced Board Director with specialist skills in scrutiny and governance, business analytics, and research and evaluation.
He has worked in senior management across the public, private and voluntary sectors, in organisations spanning health, social care, early years, education, and criminal justice.
Tony has had senior management responsibilities for strategy development, business planning, and training and development. He has been the responsible officer for annual departmental budgets of more than £10 million with managerial supervision of over 80 people.
He has worked closely with Executive Boards to deliver corporate objectives including the design and delivery of professional development programmes and effective communications.
Tony is a qualified Charted Psychologist. He gained a PhD from Leeds University and subsequently worked for the Medical Research Council at their research centre at Sheffield University.
He moved to London University’s Institute of Education in the 1990’s from where he was seconded into the Department for Education to work on the Blair Administration’s Sure Start Programme. From there he went on to become Assistant Director of Research for the Home Office, and then Head of Research for the Office of Criminal Justice Reform.
In government, Tony’s duties were to develop strategy for research and analysis for approval by ministers; use research and analysis to support the development and delivery of key policy objectives; and ensure research and analysis informed the identification and management of strategic risks.
Tony became Director of the newly formed Matrix Evidence in 2008, a division of The Matrix Knowledge Group (TMKG). Tony was responsible for leadership, strategy development and implementation, and ultimately for the commercial performance of Matrix Evidence. He was accountable to the Board of TMKG for the performance of the division, within the context of the overall company strategy. In just two years he built up the company from scratch to have an annual turnover approaching £3 million.
He now runs his own research consultancy, the RTK Ltd, and Chairs the Board of the international Center for Evidence Based Management.
