I am a leading aviation executive having worked at British Airways and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) with over 20 years’ experience as Chair and Member of Aviation Boards in the UK, USA, and China. I am an experienced guide and mentor to CEOs and executive management teams on strategy, good governance with restructure where necessary, risk management, appointment of CEOs, and executive remuneration. With a unique blend of board experience combined with cutting edge commercial, operational, technology, digital transformation and change leadership experience, I am able to deliver ‘Outside-In’ and ‘Inside-Out’ end-to-end insights which will support leadership teams in navigating post COVID challenges and opportunities. During my career I have learnt that the role of a board member is to actively listen and learn, constructively challenge, and assist the leadership team and its board towards achieving excellence. This is as opposed to being a self-opiniated armchair critic! I believe that the NEB member’s sole motivation should be to advise the board and leadership team of the right path towards excellence in achieving co-owned strategic goals. This entails the NEB member being a committed and active team player, posing the right, simple and powerful question at the right time in order to challenge both the leadership team and the board in developing and executing strategy, and knowing how to assess and if necessary address performance of the company, its leadership team and the board itself.
